Call the dentist in Killeen when you have a dental emergency. School is almost out and summer is around the corner. This means kids will be more active, taking advantage of sports and other fun events. Unfortunately, the incidence of dental emergencies increases with these summer activities, too. Your dentist in Killeen at Ace Dental is ready to help. Call our office immediately at (254) 699-6000. The dentist or a staff member will be able to offer guidance for your particular emergency or schedule a same-day appointment if necessary. And while we hope your summer doesn’t include an emergency, here is what you can do in different situations.

A Knocked Out Tooth

Undoubtedly one of the most frightening dental emergencies is a knocked out tooth. React calmly and take the following steps:

  • Touch only the crown of the tooth and rinse the root in water if it’s dirty
  • The best place for the tooth is in your mouth so put it back in the socket if possible or hold it under your tongue or in your cheek
  • If bleeding or pain prevents you from keeping the tooth in your mouth, store it in a sealed container of milk and head to our office immediately

A Broken Tooth

If a tooth is broken (fractured) because of a fall, elbow to the mouth or any other type of facial injury, rinse your mouth with warm first in order to clean away any debris. Then, apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen may also be helpful. Call our office if you can to let us know you’re on the way.

A Toothache

There are toothaches and then there are toothaches. If you’re having mild discomfort, then the problem may be that something is stuck between two teeth. Try flossing around the area. If pain persists, call our office to schedule a visit. In the case of a severe toothache, however, immediate attention is imperative. You may have an infected tooth that requires root canal therapy and antibiotic treatment.

Orthodontic Problems

If you wear braces and there is a loose or broken wire that’s irritating your cheek or gums, you can use wax or gauze to cover the end of the wire. If a wire becomes lodged in any oral soft tissue, never try to pull it out yourself. See your orthodontist or dentist as soon as possible.

Jaw Injury

If you suffer a traumatic injury or facture of the jaw, head to the nearest emergency room. Dr. Gupta and her team will be able to work in coordination with physicians to remedy any associated dental injuries.

Contact Our Office Immediately

If you or a loved one suffers a dental emergency, don’t play the waiting game. Call Ace Dental in Killeen for urgent care.
